Course Overview

You may work for an independent garage, or freight, transport and construction companies, fast-fit outlets and car dealerships. You may specialise in one particular make of vehicle.Your day-to-day tasks may include:• telling customers if repairs are needed and whether they’re urgent• working out the estimated time and cost for jobs• checking stock levels and ordering parts• carrying out standard servicing, repairs and maintenance• road testing vehicles to check repairs• fitting and servicing accessories like stereos and alarms• keeping records, Do you enjoy looking under the bonnet of a car and want to learn about diagnostics, repair, replacement and maintenance? People put their trust in you when a car is driven into a workshop and Technology is driving this sector. Participation in competition and winning awards enhances the student’s Curriculum Vitae and may lead to exciting employment opportunities.Awarding Body is IMI.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

GCSE Maths, English & ICT at Grade C or above and Level 2 vocational qualification in Motor vehicle Maintenance Repair prior to entry. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed.

ROI Requirements

Leaving Certificate English, Maths & ICT at Grade O5 or above and Level 2 vocational qualification in Motor vehicle Maintenance Repair. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed

Work Placement

As an Apprentice you will already be employed in the Automotive Industry. Our Open Days are also a great opportunity to meet employers

Further Study

On successful completion of level 3 qualification progression can be to L4/5 and Degree programmes and our Lecturers have all come through the Apprenticeship programme.

Salary GuideStarter: £20,000Experienced: £25,000 to £27,000Highly Experienced: £28,000 to £35,000With experience, you could become a senior technician, workshop supervisor or garage manager.You could work as a breakdown engineer or MOT tester, or specialise in a particular area like motorsport engineering.You could also work on electric and hybrid cars, or specialise in tuning and modifying vehicles for higher performance.You could also set up your own business.
