Course Overview

This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above. This qualification been designed to provide an introduction to the skills required to perform general building maintenance and introduce students to a range of vocational areas within construction. On achievement of this The OCNNI Level 1 Extended Certificate in General Building Maintenance learners can progress to the OCNNI Level 2 suite of Construction qualifications should they meet the relevant entry criteria. As part of the programme students will undertake Transversal/employabilty skills and offered essential skills in Maths, English and ICT. The programme will also have additional support available based on learner needs to support successful completion of programme.

Further Study

There are excellent progression routes from this Level 1 course on to L2 Traineeships to employment on the L2 Apprenticeship programme completing trade at Level 3 should all relevant entry criteria be gained.

Career Prospects

The skills gained in basic construction maintenance can provide a pathway into various trade areas allowing for the potential to achieve qualifications in that pathway and the wage structure linked to it. Across the North West and wider area many companies specialise in construction maintenance and successful completion of this qualification may provide a avenue to F/T employment with the businesses. Painters have excellent opportunities to become self-employed and start their own businesses. Once Level 3 Apprenticeship has been completed painters can progressed to HE courses to further develop their careers in the construction industry with job opportunities as site manager, project managers, H&S officers and teaching.
