If youre passionate about animals and their health and wellbeing then this is the course for you. The modern veterinary care service provider employs Veterinary Surgeons, Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Care Assistants. This qualification is designed for those tasked with providing care to animals in a veterinary care environment under the direction and/or supervision of a Veterinary Surgeon. It is designed to provide practical competence and the underpinning knowledge that is relevant to the role of veterinary carer in a modern veterinary practice while containing additional skills and knowledge which go beyond the scope of the National Occupational Standards. It provides a valuable alternative for those learners who do not have access to other qualifications.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

No formal entry requirements but prospective students must secure a placement in a veterinary practice.Preference would be given to applicants who have secured a work placement in a veterinary practice.

ROI Requirements

No formal entry requirements but prospective students must secure a placement in a veterinary practice. Preference would be given to applicants who have secured a work placement in a veterinary practice.

Work Placement

Over the course of the year, students will work in a veterinary setting, under the supervision of a fully qualified Veterinary Surgeon. Students will need to complete a minimum of 600 hours in a veterinary practice.

On completion of this qualification students could potentially progress into employment or to the following qualifications: • Vetskill Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing at NWRC • City & Guilds Level 2 and 3 Awards in Safe Use of Veterinary Medicines • Other related Level 3 qualifications
