Course Overview

This course allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Wall and Floor Tiling. Throughout the course, you will develop the knowledge required to understand the processes and procedures while learning the hands-on skills required to become a competent wall and floor tiler. You will develop the knowledge and skills in wall and floor tiling by undertaking such units as:•Health and Safety•Preparing Backgrounds for Tiling•Forming sand and cement screeds•Tile Wall Surfaces•Tile Floor Surfaces. Our students also have the opportunity to compete in Regional and UK Competitions. To succeed every NWRC student requires determination, an interest in the subject, commitment to your studies and a good work ethic.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

4 GCSEs Grades D-G to include Maths Grade D and English Grade E. This course will run subject to numbers or alternatively it will be consolidated to run in one of the campuses only.

ROI Requirements

4 OLCs (Grade O5-O8 or above) or equivalent to include English (Grade O6 or above) and Maths at (Grade O5 or above). This course will run subject to numbers or alternatively it will be consolidated to run in one of the campuses only.

Work Placement

Students will initially be provided with in college work placement which will prepare students for industrial placements if gained through the academic year.

Further Study

Students without Maths and English at grade C or above will have the opportunity to complete essential skills to Level 2 as part of the programme of study. On successful completion of the Level 2 Dip or employment status/pre-entry criteria it is possible to progress onto full time employment on Apprenticeship NI programme.

Typical SalariesStarter: £17,000 to £20,000Experienced: £20,000 to £30,000Highly Experienced: £30,000 to £38,000With experience and extra training, you could become a site supervisor, clerk of works or contract manager. You could also work as a trainer and assessor on tiling courses or set up your own business.
