She said: “I am proud to have completed my Foundation Degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management, with Distinction. It has been a great experience at the college during which time I was also a finalist for Student of the Year & the Student Management Potential Award. These were very rewarding moments.

“The HLA secured my promotion to Accommodation Manager and has allowed me to develop my skills and create my own style of management. I am using my knowledge to build a team and foster a positive environment to ensure I have happy and dedicated members of staff. Dedication and passion are needed to succeed & thrive.

Lecturer Luane Quigley said: “Roberta is a highly motivated and enthusiastic apprentice who fully engaged with all aspects of the programme & achieved a Distinction grade for her studies. Her achievements & progress are evidenced in the high levels of work produced and grades awarded, but also as Roberta grew in knowledge, skills & confidence she successfully was appointed to a new senior management role with a new employer. Roberta is applying knowledge from a number of the modules in her current position such as Budgeting, Leadership and People Management skills as well as sustainability within the workplace.

“Her strong work ethic and genuine interest in learning and personal development were key to her success. She has demonstrated many core skills required in industry such as adaptability, seeking feedback from others, building strong relations and showing a positive and caring attitude – essential for the hospitality industry which is people-centred. Her goal was to seek opportunities to learn and gain new skills & to enhance those skills she already had. This apprenticeship provided her with experiences and opportunities that helped her achieve these goals & also progression in the workplace."
