Meet Sharleen Boyle who studied two Level 2 courses in her local community run by North West Regional College.
Sharleen studied for the Level 1 in Sign Language and Level 2 in Understanding Autism Spectrum Conditions at Lisnafin Community Centre in Strabane.
She said: “I always loved sign language and wanted to study it. I started a ten-week programme through NWRC’s Community Education team. The tutor on the course was amazing and made you want to come back every week.
“I then went on to study the level 2 in Understanding Autism. All of the skills I have learned in my local community have benefitted me in my career as a play development worker with Barnardos.”
“Because the classes are community based they are not as formal as an education setting. There’s no pressure put on you. I would highly recommend taking a course in the local community. Not only is it something you do for yourself but you also earn a bonus qualification.
“It’ s something to do to give time to yourself.”
Enrolment is now open and you can view our course guide online at https://www.nwrc.ac.uk/study/course-guide
