A group of students have been recognised at a special celebration event acknowledging the achievements of St Joseph’s Boys School staff who undertook an upskilling course with North West Regional College (NWRC)

The event hosted at NWRC’s Strand Road Campus marked the conclusion of study on a Level 3 Diploma Specialist Teaching course that was specifically designed for individuals working in schools.

Ciara Deane, Principal of St Joseph’s Boys School explained how the collaboration with NWRC came about: ‘’This opportunity has been embraced by both our teaching and non-teaching staff. Our teachers have supported the students in their observations and our qualified staff have shared their expertise and given their time to support this training initiative.

“I can already see that some of newly qualified staff have been bitten by the learning bug and requests for continued shorter courses with the NWRC is an area that I will be pursuing in the new academic year. The staff at the college have been excellent with our staff and it is the commitment and teaching pedagogy shown from NWRC Early Years Lecturer Patrina Hamilton and the effervescent support from Assessor Toni Quinsey that has sustained this model of learning .

“An additional thank you to the vision of NWRC Business Skills Manager Sinead Hawkins and NWRC Business Development Executive Jane Fleming who acted as catalysts of this idea. I am confident that this is only the beginning of our training journey with the NWRC.’’

NWRC Business Skills Manager Sinead Hawkins added: ‘’This event has highlighted the importance of the collaborative work with Further Education Colleges and Schools. It has also been a pleasure to be able to celebrate the success of individual learners and to showcase the impact this training has had on individuals and pupils.”
