North West Regional College (NWRC) is set to showcase a unique 360° audio-visual production made for dome projection, the first of its kind in Northern Ireland.
Psychlorama, which will be screened in the college’s Strand Road campus, is a 30-minute, four-part experimental piece incorporating hugely inventive visuals and electronic music.
And you can you can register now to view it yourself at a number of limited screenings taking place on June 24 and 25 at NWRC’s Foyle Theatre.
The Production is a collaborative project involving North West Regional College, Ulster University, Queen’s University Belfast, Movin Music Academy and Celtronic.
Tony Talbot, Pscyhlorama’s Producer and NWRC lecturer said: “In 2019, as part of a Connected NI-supported field trip, two NWRC lecturers attended the Mira AV festival in Barcelona and visited a projection dome for the first time, seeing a number of short 360° AV productions. Realising the creative potential of the medium, they had a thought: should we have a go at this ourselves?
“Having little idea, however, of how to go about making surround AV productions, they contacted the UU and QUB to see if, working together through Connected NI, they could produce something that would expand the skills and knowledge of all involved and also be a fresh, exciting experience for an audience.
“Two years later and after much head scratching, knowledge gathering and exchanging of ideas (the team were also fortunate to receive expert guidance and support from Dome Club, Immersive Theatres and the National Space Centre), Psychlorama has emerged.”
Psychlorama is produced by Tony Talbot; visuals by James McGarrigle and Jonny Delaney; audio by Rory Donaghy, Johnny Delaney, with contributions from Alan Hook, Vincent O’Callaghan and Aaron Thomas.
