Patrick Mullan

Course: OCN Level 4 Award in Digital Marketing and Social Media

Patrick chose to study his digital marketing course online, from the comfort of his own home. He also completed a work placement with Destined, a non-profit organisation that helps people with learning disabilities. After graduation he hopes to secure a role in Communications.

I chose to study at NWRC because they offered the course that I wanted on a part-time basis which was important to me as I work full-time, and it's also very accessible.

Where are you from? Claudy

What is your previous education?

I studied at St Brigid's College, Derry to get my GCSEs and my A-Levels.

-----

Why did you choose to Social Media & Digital Marketing at NWRC?
I chose to study at the NWRC as I was looking for somewhere to be able to achieve relevant Digital Marketing qualifications in order for me to achieve a career in that field. It was also the most convenient for me because of the course being delivered online, which was a big selling point for me.

Tell us a bit more about your course

The Social Media and Digital Marketing course was handled completely online, where I attended classes every Wednesday from roughly 5pm to 8pm. In it, I learned really useful factors and aspects of digital marketing such as Social Media Marketing, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), The different types of marketing, How to make a digital marketing plan and strategy and so on. Coursework was handed in on a weekly basis which worked well for both time management and for putting what I learned into a practice.

I completed a work placement alongside my course in order to gain more experience in the Marketing sector which I felt was really beneficial for my studies. I worked with Destined, which is a non-profit organization that helps people with learning disabilities.

Would you recommend this course to other students?
Of course! I definitely feel for those looking to get into the marketing sector for employment, I really feel this course delivers in giving students a strong grasp of the many aspects of Digital Marketing.

The course being delivered online is especially beneficial for me due to me living out in the countryside, as it is a lot more convenient to be able to attend the course online at home rather than having to get bus fares back and forth. Being able to do complete a work placement alongside my studies really helps too as I have gained hands-on experience in the Marketing sector. I am now able to put what I have learned during my course into practice.

-----

What do you plan to do next?

Next I plan to seek out a full-time job as a Marketing Assistant. As of now, I'm currently seeking out jobs and updating my CV accordingly to reflect my new qualifications. I'm hoping to get a job in Communications.
